Once a person has outlived their usefulness, since they’re witnesses to crimes that can be “turned” by real law enforcement into prosecution witnesses, they’re defined to be a liability. I think Mr. Perepilichnyy’s real problem that forced him to run from Russia is he’d lost most importance. He’d done what clients needed most of him. It’s kind of like the old stories about the Italian mob murdering its accountants that kept & cooked books & helped hide money so that no loose ends were left.
