Within days of Sergei Magnitsky’s death the criminal group made a second more serious attempt to steal the $21.5 million from the government. Mr. Firestone was informed of this attempt by the Moscow Tax Inspectorate in late December 2009. Over 5 months had passed since he had filed his first complaint alerting the authorities that the criminals were trying to steal this money and still no investigation had been opened. As of June 2010 (after 10 months and 2 attempts) the government still has not opened an investigation to try and prevent this theft of its own money.
