Artur Karpov, Judge of Basmanny District Court of Moscow
Judge Artur Karpov refused the lawsuit from Magnitsky’s mother seeking to compel the Russian Investigative Committee to investigate the torture and murder of her son.
Judge Karpov justified this decision of 13 December 2011 by saying he saw “no ground not to trust the documents submitted by the investigative body.”

On 23 May 2013, judge Artur Karpov refused the lawsuit from Magnitsky’s colleague, Jamison Firestone, seeking to compel the Russian Investigative Committee to investigate the tax officials who approved the fraudulent $230 million tax refund. He justified his decision by the identical statement: “Court sees no ground not to trust the documents submitted by the investigative body.”
On 18 March 2013, judge Artur Karpov refused the lawsuit from Magnitsky’s mother against the posthumous proceeding against her son.
